The copyright data at HathiTrust indicates that Devil's Cargo is the only one whose copyright wasn't renewed.

Does anyone else have evidence that the copyright on Devil's Cargo was renewed?

If that one isn't under copyright, then that's great. I thought the entire "Falcon" series was in copyright jail, to be released only for 3 a.m. showings on Turner Classic Movies...

The text of the copyright registers at HathiTrust was produced by G00GLE by scanning the paper books and then OCRing.

Since the text contains many, many errors, my lookup program uses a fuzzy, fault-tolerant matching routine that ought to find the movie even if the title isn't spelled perfectly.

However, there is a slight chance that the entry for this movie was lost or too badly mangled during the scanning and OCRing.

If anyone else has information about the copyright status of this film, please advise.

The original reg number from the 1948 copyright record is LP1540, 1Mar48

Maybe you can search on that info as a double check?

But the registration also indicates, "based on the character, 'The Falcon' created by Michael Arlen'" So if the character is trademarked it may be a no go anyway.

Using grep to search for LP1540 turns up nothing.

I wish that Video-Cellar would help.
